My Post-Op Report

So, I had an operation two weeks ago yesterday on my, uh, boy bits and things are feeling better. Mostly.

I won’t go into much detail as, well, I don’t want to, but things are working out OK for the most part.

When I went in for the surgery, the first thing I noticed was that the radio (not a CD player or anything) was playing Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust” which was, honestly, a bit on the nose if you ask me. When I mentioned that to the doctor he said that the song plays around the same time every day and that the irony wasn’t lost on him either.

The surgery only took about 20 minutes and the worst part was when he injected the vas deferentia with the lidocaine. There was definitely, as the doc stated, a “pinch and a burn” when he gave me the shots on each side of the “area.” Once the stuff set in though, there wasn’t really any pain but I could definitely feel what he was doing. The burning flesh smell was a bit distracting though.

I was taken home by my buddy Caley and spent the next five and a half days recuperating in our bedroom with the TV, my XBox 360 and a bunch of books and DVDs. The swelling was pretty severe and a sock filled with a zip-top bag with frozen peas in it was a very close friend to me for that time.

Forward to two-weeks-and-a-day after the event and I’m still pretty sore but feeling better. The stitches have dissolved and/or fallen out but I still feel like I got kicked in the junk.

  1. Damn it! I thought this was gonna be a report about ACORN! I certainly didn’t expect to read about frozen pea-filled socks today. Glad to hear you’re feeling a bit (2 bits?) better. And the blog looks real nice!

  2. Wow John. You don’t read my blog much do you? I really just do posts about damn-near anything EXCEPT politics. Unless it’s election season then I just copy-paste victory speeches…

  3. Damn! I thought it would have felt better sooner! How did you get away from the fam for 5 days? That shot in the nads sounds..PAINFUL!!! Can’t they figure out a different procedure already? Note to self: If you are in a fight with Ted kick him in the nads!

  4. That photo is so intriguing. I mean I get that it’s a Monte or Cutlass rollin’ 20”s but the thing that’s intriguing is that 1) it is lifted and 2) has a modified rear differential…? Just a weird combo. I’m confused in a trailer trash/low rider sort of way.

  5. Keep in mind that I don’t do well with pain. I’m a pretty quick healer, but don’t dig pain. The fact that I got no medication love from the doc didn’t help either.

As far as getting away from the fam, I kept myself in the bedroom with books, DVDs and the 360 getting up occasionally to get some food or just walk around. I was still active with the girls, I was just VERY careful around them and made sure they knew to be careful with me. With the exception of Lauren stepping on my junk once (and that was MORE than enough, thank you very much) things were OK. I just wasn’t doing bath time or changing/lifting Lauren. I still read Claire her stories every night.

As far as the car’s concerned, hell son, I don’t know.
