Nerd Alert Redux!

Now they’re making stamps! To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars, the USPS is producing Star Wars stamps! Joy!

Another reason to love Les Schwab

I’m headed down to the Central Coast tonight to spend the weekend with my dad and his ex-cop buddies (always a good time, drunk ex-cops sharing “war stories”) and thought I should get my tires rotated before I head down. It’s been 15,000 miles and I figured I was due. I went online to the store locator, get the number to my local store, and give them a call:

Les Schwab Rep: Thanks for calling Les Schwab, how can I help you?
Me: Hi, I was wondering how much you charge for a tire rotation.
LSR: Nothing. Just remember us when you need work done on your car.
Me: Fair enough! When can I bring my car in and how long do you think it will take?
LSR:You can bring it in any time, it should take around 30 minutes.

Damn, they’re good. They’ll also fix slow leaks for free, as long as you “think of them the next time you need work done.” With customer service like that, I certainly will!

Happy Birthday Mom!

Mom & CJ

Today is my mother’s birthday, she’s, uh, 39. Again. For the 22nd time. 😉

Anyhoo, I just wanted to share my best wishes and love to the greatest mom a guy could ask for. Even when I was in my grumpy “I hate everyone” teenage years mom was one of my best friends and remains one of my best friends to this day. I can honestly say that I am who I am today because of her. She was always encouraging me to try harder and experience new things every day.

If I’m half the parent to Claire that mom was to me, Claire’s going to turn out great.

Happy birthday mom! I love you!

(Check out who else shares her birthday here. Dude, William F’ing Shatner! Awesome!)

My Fantasy Baseball Line-up

Keeping up with Tom seems to be a tradition here at Ted’s Blog, I’m always trying out things he’s recommended or copying him in one way or the other, usually for the best.

With that in mind, since he’s posted his Fantasy Baseball line-up, here’s mine:

Chris Carpenter (StL)
Félix Hernández (Sea)
J.J. Putz (Sea)
Armando Benítez (SF)
Chris Young (SD)
Tom Glavine (NYM)
Freddy García (Phi)
Ted Lilly (ChC)

Field Postions:

C Kenji Johjima (Sea)
1B Nomar Garciaparra (LAD)
2B Dan Uggla (Fla)
3B Adrián Béltre (Sea)
SS Omar Vizquel (SF)
OF Ichiro Suzuki (Sea)
OF Torii Hunter (Min)
OF Eric Byrnes (Ari)
Util Todd Helton (Col)
BN Hideki Matsui (NYY)
BN Richie Sexson (Sea)
BN A.J. Pierzynski (CWS)
BN Craig Biggio (Hou)

It’s a pretty good mix of AL and NL, with a nice heapin’ helpin’ of Seattle Mariners thrown in for good measure. I’m pretty happy with my batting average as well, my least good (non-benched) player has a “meager” .267 average (Eric Byrnes). Should make for good times, as long as I keep up with my players… Football is easier, you only really have to make changes once or twice a week, this is going to require an almost-daily modification.

Papa! Papa! Papa!

My dad, AKA Papa, is coming into town today on his way down to Morro Bay to spend a week at the beach house we’ve got down there. Claire’s looking forward to seeing him, as are Jen and I. He’ll be here later this afternoon and , as my luck goes, I’ll probably get paged with a downed server about five minutes after he gets here… 😉

The new voice of Lanlogic

Gene and I are working on recording the voice prompts for our office today. We’re installing a new-fangled fancy-pants phone system and I’ll be “replacing” Art (the owner, founder, CEO) as the “voice” of Lanlogic. Weeeee!

Nerd Alert! Nerd Alert!

Well, it’s been 30 years since Star Wars: A New Hope was released in theaters and created a generation of geeks, myself included. According to the US Postal Service is working with Lucas Arts to commenorate the event with the geekiest mailboxes this side of Tatooine and I couldn’t be happier! Check it out below!

New Google Bomb

Who’s with me?

You hear that? That’s the sound of 10 of my hard (ly)-earned dollars being flushed into the toilet that is known as the “Powerball Lottery.”

The best response of the day? Gene saying, “No thanks, I was a statistics major in college.”
