Walter Sobchak

Lance dressed as Walter Sobchak of The Big Lebowski fame for Halloween today and made this awesome name tag for himself.

So cool, I wish I’d thought of that…

Target = 225 by 1/1/07

I went in and got a physical today and the doctor and I discussed my weight. There’s no argument, I’m overweight. Hell, I’m fat, I can admit that. I weighed in at 245 pounds today. Not the heaviest I’ve ever been, but close. Damn close.

So, what am I going to do about it? We discussed a target weight of 210 (he’s aware that the “ideal” 185 is never gonna happen) and I’m going to tier it down a bit to make it more easily manageable: I’m going to shoot for 225 pounds by January 1st. That’s only 20 pounds and a pretty good starting-off point. I can do this.

How am I going to do this? I’m going to start simply enough and just eat three meals a day. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. I almost never eat breakfast (coffee doesn’t count) or lunch (a handful of nuts or a corn dog doesn’t count) and eat a frozen dinner and then snack away all night. That will stop. I am going to have three meals a day. Even if it’s just a banana or protein bar for breakfast and a sandwich for lunch, I need to get my metabolism back. Dinner will, honestly, probably still subsist of something microwavable, but I will cut my snacking back to virtually nil. I know I’m not going to be able to completely stop snacking… Hell, I got a new popcorn popper for my birthday last week, but popcorn’s not too bad a snack. I’ll just cut the amount of butter I use and add more seasonings (pepper, seasoned salt, etc.). Nor am I going to stop eating the occasional bowl of ice cream. I will, however, stop going to the kitchen damn-near every commercial break for a piece of chocolate or toast or toaster-waffle or, or or….

So, target weight for 1/1/07 is 225 pounds. Ideal target is 210 or less. Wish me luck!

I have good Coworkers

This is what I got for my birthday today at work. I have good friends here at work, but I need to mention Caley specifically as he really went above and beyond in cooridnating this whole thing and getting people to chip in.

I’m speechless…

Firefox 2.0 released, hooray!

I’m an unabashed Firefox fan, I have no qualms admitting that. Well sir, Firefox 2.0 was released today and you should really give it a try. I almost never use IE anymore unless I have to (certain sites I use for work-related stuff won’t work with Firefox, but 99.99% of sites do.)

Anyway, here’s a link to download it. Just do it. Have fun, join the converted.

We don’t deserve TV this good…

In what would normally be a season, if not series, finale, tonight’s Battlestar Galactica was one of the finest hours of TV I’ve seen in a very long time. Was this a season or series finale? Nope, episode four of a (I think) 20-part season.

If you’re not a fan of the show, shame on you. It’s sooooo beyond just Sci-Fi. Just like Tom’s post about HEROES from yesterday, this is a show that doesn’t care if you’re a techie, geek or sci-fi nerd (for the record, I fall under all three). If you’re a fan of well-produced well-acted drama, you’re going to get a lot from this show. Do yourself a favor and start watching. Next week would be an excellent starting-off point for the “newbies.” I’ll fill you in on the backstory…

Caley and I were parking my car to go to the Metreon for a bit yesterday when we came across this wonderful license plate. As we were taking a picture of the plate, the owner (a very nice early-60’s womain) walked up to us and told us we can only take a picture of the plate if we supported it. I believe my response was “100% ma’am!”

She said she was worried about getting in trouble, even in San Francisco as her neighborhood is rather conservative. She went on to say that she has placards and a car-topper for the car as well, but wouldn’t put them up in a parking lot for obvious reasons.

There’s a bumper sitcker on the car (lower right-hand corner of the picture) that says “BUSHWA, look it up” as well.

Too… Much… Sugar!

Damn my sweet tooth! I was craving sweet yesterday so on my way home I stopped off at the Quicky Mart and got some candy. One of those lik-em-ade’s, a Butterfinger and a (King Size) Pay Day. I then ate them all in one sitting. That was bad.

I woke up around midnight or so and ran directly to the bathroom and, uh, purged the candy. I did not sleep well the rest of the night and kept waking up sick to my stomach and having the cold sweats. Not good times.

Caley is diabetic and was kind enough to explain to me what I did to my body and that my sugar levels were probably so high that I was producing crazy amounts of insulin.

So, lesson learned. I no longer have a sweet tooth and doubt that I will for some time…

You may begin the making-fun-of-Ted now…

Tom’s 29 today!

Go Tom, it’s your birthday.

We’re gonna party, like it’s your birthday.

Won’t drink Bacardi, ’cause it’s your birthday…

Happy birthday Tom!

Lightning strikes twice! is a really cool website about raising kids and I hit their site every once in a while. They also have a Flickr group that I post pictures of CJ to occasionally. Well sir, they’ve (for the second time) chosen one of my pictures for their picture of the day. I didn’t blog about it the first time, you know, because modesty is my middle name, but thought I’d share this time.

See, it’s not just me who thinks that CJ is adorable!

Also, Tom’s son Lane has also been featured as one of their pictures of the day, and I’m very excited to have been able to one-up him again! 😉
